My name’s Sergio Ordóñez Suánez and I’m a 28 years old digital artist based in Berlin (Germany). I’m spanish, my hometown is Málaga but I was living in Madrid during the last year.
A selection of my work is included at Sosfactory I´m the main responsible of all what you see there, from the online promotion of the site and webdesign to the artwork you see there.
Sosnewbie is a personal project Im starting to help newbies to break into the design industry. All here is done by me for people like you… I hope it will be helpful.
Now a bit about me:
When I was a child I liked to play with crayons, I always was a good student but lazy and Im the younger of 4 brothers… so drawing was a way to stand out from others. Lets say the fact of drawing was the way to get that “Im special” feeling.
In my adolescence I had time to improve my drawing skills, just a hobby and a way to gain some social approvation. I spent my time imitating to the masters, I specially liked Richard Corben because of his sense of movement and his covers… others favorite artists: Will Eisner, Jeff Jones, Azpiri, Milo Manara, Uderzo & Goscini, Juan Giménez, Boris Vallejo…
When I finished the primary school I was thinking of doing a graphic art course, but you know all parents need a universitary in the family and my hometown is in the stone age (the city where Picasso was born has not a official art titulation
)… so I started my brilliant-4years- psicologist career.
Sometime around year 2000, Vero my girlfriend (Halo Schatzy!), got a PC and I discovered the wonderful world of Photoshop, I remember the feelings the first time I play with it… think about it from a traditional´s artist view… I was able to move things, CTRL+Z to undo-redo, saving color palettes and all the advantages of traditional mediums!!
When I finished my psicology degree I tried to get a job in the CSI police… hard task if you think there was just a few vacants for thousands of applicants, there was long time in front of the Pc “studying”, but the fact is more time I needed to studying more time I was playing with Photoshop.
When I bought my first Wacom tablet the artist I had into myself won the battle… I think it was the most important step to break into the design industry, it was a really expensive tool but my gfriend pushed me to do it. Again the same wonderfull feeling… that tool was done for me!!
At this time I already got a crappy job like freelance comic colorist and I started to do my first logos for 15 bucks I was not good and fast either, but I learned fast… you know that feeling when you think you was born to do something? It was what I started to feel.
After all a year “studing” to be policeman and doing small design jobs on the side, I felt depressed and I choiced to try my career like digital artist. I was 25 years old, old enough to start anything but young enough to be risky. So… I woud try for a year, if I was not good enough I would come back to my studies, but I needed to show myself It was not my business.
And it´s the way how Sosfactory was born around 3 years ago, now I can say that decisión changed my life completelly.
Thanks for reading!
Sergio
